Grey Ghost Press is pleased to present Morton Tabernacle and The Wordless Chorus at DARK FAIR! This unique 2-day event organized by the Milwaukee International art fair will take place at the Swiss Institute in New York on March 28-29, 2008. DARK FAIR! is a “subversive and experimental miniature art fair taking place without the use of natural or electric light.” Participants will display work custom to these conditions, ie using candlelight, flashlights, oil lamps, work that glows in the dark, light sculpture, and battery powered film and video. Grey Ghost Press contributes to the show with the following two unplugged performances by artists Brian Belott, Larissa Velez and Peter Pezzimenti:

Morton Tabernacle
Composed and Directed by Brian Belott and Peter Pezzimenti
Time: 7:30 pm Friday & Saturday March 28-29

Belott and Pezzimenti perform Morton Tabernacle, an ongoing improvisational project paying tribute to composer Morton Feldman. Using drums, piano, bells, and mandolin the artists respond to Feldman’s unique concepts by devising their own systems and parameters for composition, intuitively focusing on the space between silence and sound.

The Wordless Chorus
Composed and Directed by Brian Belott and Larissa Velez
Time: 8:00 pm Friday & Saturday, March 28 -29

Artists Belott and Velez perform, for the first time, their collaborative composition Wordless Chorus. This impressive piece involves over 25 chorus members singing, humming and ululating nonsense syllables, as conducted by the artists using choreographed movements, electronic flags, bells, chattering teeth and a glow-in-the-dark baton. Inspired by the eerie pre-electronic experiments of Hungarian composer György Ligeti and the mayhem of Juan García Esquivel’s “Sonorama” style of textured 1960s lounge music, Belott and Velez have created an incredibly moving, and at times unsettling, contemporary composition.

Chorus: Brian Belott, LaBanna Bly, Jeff Cook, Hilary Clark, Lance delos Reyes, Diego Duentas, Erin Fierst, Chie Fueki, James Franklin, JayIsraelson, Andrea Johnston, Genevieve Kammel, Misaki Kiwai, GabrielLit, Michael Mahalchick, Jamie Matson, Andrew Megginson, Ilse Murdock, Annie Pearlman, Pete Pezzimenti, Rebecca Rothbam, Leah Shuchter, BryanSykora, Jenn Sykora, Sean Taylor, Brina Thurston, Larissa Velez, Maxwell Williams.
